A Great Vacation with Your Pet
Courtesy The Humane Society of the United States
If your pet is healthy and enjoys riding in the car, you can safely take it on vacation with you if you follow these guidelines.
- Have your pet checked by a vet and get health and rabies certificates.
- Make sure pets are welcome where you will be staying.
- Pack food and water dishes, bedding, leash, and a first-aid kit.
- Keep an ID tag on your pet at all times. The tag should have the name and phone number of someone who can reach you while you travel.
- Feed your pet a light meal several hours before driving.
- Stop frequently for exercise, but never allow your pet to run loose.
- Keep your pet in a pet carrier. Never allow your pet to ride with its head outside the window.
- Never leave your pet unattended.
